Brief

Design an app icon. What best represents the brand or product? Or is it incredibly unique? Does it look great at a distance and does it stand out when put on your home screen alongside other apps?

After explore app icon on desktop and mobile devices, it could be displayed in 2 types:

Below I picked some app icons as the reference for this challenge:

As a part of this challenge, I propose three options to redesign the Malaysia Airlines app icon:

1. Edit the app name: Change the app name from "MalaysiaAirlines" to "Malaysia."
   To avoid app name truncation, making it easier to recognize and remember.
2. Edit the app name and icon: Change the app name to "Malaysia" and use the flight tail with logo as the app icon.
   Make the app more obvious as it shows a flight tail, indicating that the app is related to an airline. This will be particularly helpful for users who are not familiar with the Malaysia Airlines brand.
3. Use the brand name logo.
   To enhance brand recognition, especially when displayed with the icon only.

From the three options, no. 2 was selected for the redesign. The revision included the concepts from the previous design to help users quickly adapt, especially those who are familiar with the previous look.

Final Thoughts

While this challenge could have been as simple as designing an app icon, I decided to explore further and provide opinions on other app icons, in which to let me think further on understanding the project and situation. By doing so, I hoped this exercise could allowed me to expand my knowledge and creativity.
